How Sony Pictures Imageworks creates an odyssey in three dimensions.
Sony Pictures Imageworks has long been known and admired as a leader in the production of breathtaking films whose visual effects suspend disbelief into dimensions we've not yet experienced. Over the past several years, their fleet of incredible talent and technology have moved us beyond 3D effects into the universe of stereoscopic films, taking us on a rollercoaster ride to the north pole, then into the jaws of a monster house, and now we await the studio's journey into a legend of the past. Rob Engle, Stereographer and Digital Effects Supervisor at Sony Pictures Imageworks, moderates a panel of artists, technologists and supervisors who take us through the process of transforming 3D assets into stereoscopic adventures. 3D has arrived; see it, embrace and understand it. Today’s 3D is better than the audience could have imagined and the industry is watching with fanatical interest. Backed by the most powerful filmmakers and studios, the move to 3D is fueled by A-level product and vibrant workflows. Jeffrey Katzenberg refers to 3D as “the single most revolutionary change since color pictures.” George Lucas commented “the time has come for 3D to become more than some theme park attraction. We see a business there.” And that’s why there are projects in the pipelineand Spielberg, Zemeckis and Jackson are in the 3D business now.

This is an opportunity to hear the leaders at the top of 3D : Josh Greer (RealD), Aaron Parry( Main Street Pictures) Buzz Hays (Sony Pictures Imageworks) and Howard Postley (3ality Digital) and experience an incredible Screening of the Hottest 3D Projects. This panel presents some of the most influential people and companies working at the vanguard of 3D. For nearly 20 years, Josh Greer has been at the cutting edge of technology, and RealD is playing a key role in the acquisition, post production and delivery of this dynamic content. Buzz Hays, (Senior Producer, Sony Pictures Imageworks) is a pioneer whose credits include MONSTER HOUSE, THE TERMINAL and THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK. Hays is currently at work on the highly anticipated BEOWULF with Robert Zemeckis and is a recognized leader in stereoscopic films and visual effects with stints at Radium, yU+co, and Lucasfilm THX. Aaron Parry (Main Street Pictures) has focused his career on traditional and CGI animation, live action and 3D. His credits include The Iron Giant, SpongeBob Squarepants, and Barnyard the movie. He is at work on a number of projects for Paramount Pictures and independent animation and 3D companies. Howard Postley is the COO/CTO of 3ality Digital, who have built an incredible production and post production pipeline. 3ality will soon present U2 3D.
