Making Commercials: High Def and Other Smart Ideas.
An all-star session addressing technical and business changes affecting TV commercial production. These include: high-def production and distribution, remote collaboration among agencies, production companies and post houses; the impact of TiVo-like technology; the migration of advertising to the web; and the future of the traditional 30-second spot.
Chuck Peil of ReelFX will moderate a panel that will include: Greg Gibson, The Richards Group; Karl Meisenbach, HDNet; Jeremy Besser, Directorz; Nory Niven, Stonecore; Clay Bakker, Big Fish Films; Scott Wilson, HD Republic; David Hannah, charlieuniformtango; and Jaime Roderer, Publicis.

Post Production Enters the High Definition Age
Technology is driving a major upheaval in postproduction. Cheaper and faster tools have lowered the cost of entry. At the same time, clients are demanding whiz-bang effects, a silver platter of edit choices, and lightning-fast turnaround. Throw high-def into the mix and you have a recipe for revolution. Harvey Kopel, founder of New York’s Edit Decisions, will moderate a panel of distinguished Dallas-based post house execs, including Martin Spirit of Video Post and Tansfer and Don Stokes of Post Asylum.

SXSW conversation with Shane Carruth and Robert Wilonsky.
Shane Carruth is the winner of the 2004 Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize, for his feature film "Primer". This Dallas-based production was eventually picked up for distribution by ThinkFilm, and will be released in theaters this fall. Robert Wilonsky, is the host of HDNet's Higher Definition and writer for the Dallas Observer.

Independent Filmmaker and Video Roundtable
A frank discussion of indy issues where independent filmmakers share stories of their successes and their mistakes -- and offer insights to other filmmakers who are embarking on new film, video and HD projects. Randy Roberts of Positive Impact Films will moderate this session. Confirmed speakers, who will screen segments of their recent work, include: Scott Murray; Barak Epstein, Dirk Higdon, John Keys, whose new film was shot on HD; and Clay Liford, who has also shot on high def.
